LEGging It Out with Patrick Sabol

LEGging it out was a limited run summer series in which Lancaster Eagle-Gazette sports reporters Blake Williams and Vince Nairn challenged some of the best local high school athletes to their own sport (or a variation thereof). I was the primary videographer, editor and director for the series.

Ghost Flutes

I was given an assignment to photograph the annual Trade Faire in Lancaster, Ohio. The faire is a show that features reproductions and original items from the 1700s to the 1890s. It is aimed at historical reenactors and collectors.

While walking through the show I heard the haunting music that opens the clip. I had to find out more about the man making the music and, as I came to find out, the flute he was playing.

Flooding in Greenfield Township

While driving through Greenfield Township with a reporter trying to find flooding damage, we saw a family dragging items out of their house onto their lawn. We stopped and asked if the family had suffered from any flood damage overnight. The Cook's answered yes and offered to show us the basement of their two month-old home.

Ewing Junior High School Rockets

I was driving to work when I saw students at Ewing Junior High playing with water propelled rockets in front of the school. Obviously my interest was peaked. 

I stopped, went inside to talk to the dean of students, then back out to talk to the science teacher in charge and started taking video and photographs.

Sobriety Checkpoint

Who doesn't want to spend a weekend night hanging out with a bunch of police officers looking for impaired drivers?

This video was for an assignment from the Media Network of Central Ohio's enterprise desk (a group of reporters and editors who create content for the more than 100,000 print and online subscribers for 10 Gannett owned daily newspapers in Ohio). 

I was asked to take photographs and videos for a package of stories about the impact of impaired driving and the effectiveness of Ohio's sobriety checkpoints

Buckeye Lake Winery Polar Bear Plunge

In February I and two coworkers covered a polar bear plunge into Buckeye Lake. I was responsible for producing the video for the event. It can be seen here.
